Just looking to see if anyone can recommend a CLEAR non-obstructing front license plate cover for a 5th GEN 2019 Explorer XLT. Many of the ones I've tried from stores, either interfere with the stock bracket, or sag outwards... Gotta protect that $300 vanity plate.. ;)

These are legal in my jurisdiction, so no concern there...

Cheers,

I had clear covers on my plate and when I went to have the dealer put them on a new vehicle, he changed the plate holder saying that there is not supposed to be any cover, even clear, over the plate. This seems to be reasonable as how long do clear covers actually stay that way given exposure to the elements?

It's a valid point for sure... but in Ontario, they seem pretty reasonable if it's truly clear. Here's the section in the HTA:

On the note of clarity over time, I've been using Plexus to maintain my covers, with minimal yellowing or fogging. Given a vanity plate costs about CDN$300, I'd rather take my chances.. Hopefully our folks in Blue can focus on the thousands upon thousands that try to obscure their plates, or equally bad, have peeling plates (which most could have exchanged for free).

It's really the top black tabs on the 5th GEN plate holder than interfere with the covers.

Cheers,
R

My first set of 'Vanity' plates was my amateur radio callsign and they were discounted. Years later I switched them in for the Veterans plates and there was no cost for that. NO covers on but I have seen many around here with white letters on a white background. ;)
