so i am looking to get more traction and loose the one wheel burn out. i have looked around and for the price i found a cobra LSD 8.8 31 sline which i really have been thinking about swaping inplace of my open diff. my only real question is will the unit swap inside of housing? what would i need other than a gear set, gear install kit, and master bearings kit?

i was told by someone at an off road shop in houston that i would need to look into the why it is bolted in? if they have the same style c-clips or something different?

so i asked what he would charge and he said close to 1000 dollars to buy the rear end?! i found a brand new cobra LSD unit for 225 bucks! i think he was refering to the entire rear end with axles and all i am looking is to open the rear end housing and put in gears with a different carrier to peel out both TIRES!!!

will my mustang rear end guts idea work?

thanks

Depends on what it's out of... If it's from a Cobra with an IRS (which it sounds like it is) then it won't work as there's no way for the IRS rear diff to retain the standard axles. It'll bolt in, but it won't keep the axle shafts from walking out.

IMHO, find a local gear shop or trans shop and have them quote you on an Eaton TruTrac differential. No clutches to wear out like the OEM Trac-Lok, and seamless operation on the street. A full locker will lock more solid, but isn't as 'streetable' IMHO. The TruTrac's operation will be seamless.

so i guess i will look into that as its not the first time i hear that. what is a good brand full locking rear end and what exactly does everyone mean by not as streetable?

i hear its not as streetable, but never heear why... i mean the name of the game is traction. more traction is what you go for and what would be so different about the rear ends other than the one wheel, one and a half wheel, and full 2 wheel peels?

also, i just found a ford racing basic clutch type carrier that will fit and its 270 shipped. versus 415 for the eaton. what benefits would there be in the eaton over the ford racig? and how long does the ford on elast before the traction starts to dwindle and start to act "open" and such.
like 50k miles? more? less?
