99 Sport, 4.0 SOHC, 75,000miles, 4WD. I have had a loud humming/vibration for a while now that I thought was the tires but it is getting worse. After searching on here Im thinking it may be a U-Joint but there is no play in the front driveshaft but I am not sure if that is the only sign to tell a bad U-Joint. I can feel it in the floorboard and it seems to come and go as my speed increases and decreases (humming gets the loudest when slowing down).

Second, I seem to have some play in the steering wheel. I had the wheel cranked all the way when backing up yesterday and I heard a thump and the wheel kinda jerked, almost like I ran over something, but I didnt. It happened the same way when I pulled forward. I get a lot of play in the wheel when Im going over bumps and tend to kinda get "thrown around" the road. If I am on any road with a side to side incline the truck pulls alot to the lower side of the road. I understand some pull is normal but not this much. On my way home I was going about 70mph and I slowed down because it just didnt feel safe being jerked around the road like that.

My dad told me to get under the truck and find all of the Grease Zerts and Grease everything in the front end as I have had the truck since 44,000 and Im sure it wasnt done before that. Im not sure what to look for. I will look in my Hanes when I get home and I will rotate the tires to see if that helps. Just looking for some extra advice from people that have done this. Thanks

How about a wheel bearing (hub assembly) that is shot.

checked those when I did brakes about a month ago and i didnt feel any play.
