Lost the #3 fan speed on HVAC controls

my 02 ranger xlt with a/c


i just noticed that on my fan speed HVAC control i lost my #3 speed. When i select the #3 position, the fan runs at the slower #2 position speed.


its not a big deal but its kind of annoying since i can only have heat barely trickling out of the vents or blowing full blast lol.

you think its the fan speed selector switch or something else?
 






Could be that one coil of the blower resistor block is broken. A second possibility is corrosion at the connector to the resistor block. Either of these is much more likely than a failed blower speed switch.

The resistor is in the HVAC plenum under the hood next to the blower motor. If it comes to replacement, the cost should be about $10~20.
