Hey guys, my buddy needs some help. Today he had the oil changed on a 95 F-150 w/ a 5.0L w/ around 50K on it. It ran fine until right after the change and then there were huge clouds of white, dense smoke coming out of the tailpipes. They drained some of the oil to make sure they didn't overfill it, but no luck. No noises from under the hood or anything just the smoke, so we drove it home (approx. 1 mi) very carefully. Couple of people think the he blew a head gasket or swallowed a valve, but what do ya'll think? It's going to the shop whenever he can get it in, but he needs to know the possibilities and the associated costs. Thanks for any help you can offer.

By the way, his sister wrecked it this summer...BAD. I don't know if that would make a difference, but here it is.Thanks again.

White or blue smoke?
White smoke would indicate a head gasket. Blue smoke w/ burnt oil smell out of the tailpipe could be a head gasket or a valve.
I don't see how that could be related to the oil change thoug.
Unless the engine has a lot of miles and usually runs w/ 20w50 and they put something like 5w30 in it.
Good luck.

Something else, if she wrecked it and then drove it with the radiator exploded or if the radiator has been replaced and the cooling systemwas not correctly refilled it could cause some damages to head gasket. I would check that.
Just a thouht...

thanks dbarale,
We thought it was a head gasket from the white smoke, but wanted to check. The oil was the same he always runs, even down to the brand. As for the accident, she wrecked it bad and it had to be towed. Do you think this was just a stroke of bad luck ? Any advice would be helpful. Thanks again.
