Lousy driver side door handle. Help on paint!

Hey guys. It's time to replace that busted drivers side door handle, as I'm sure many of you have done. I want to buy one off ebay, but they mostly come in gray. There are few in tan but they are hella expensive. Here's the question, should I get the gray one and just paint it, or should I spend the extra dough to get a tan one. Anyone painted a gray handle tan? Does it come out alright?

Rough up the old paint. Apply 2 coats of a good quality seal primer, then shoot with the paint color of your choice. You shouldn't get any gray bleeding through then.

Stock, most XLT and Sport handles were flat black, not gray. If you're looking for OEM look then they should be painted flat black. They turn gray over time from exposure to the elements. Eddie Bauers and Limiteds sometimes had painted handles.

i think he means the inside door handle. but rhett is right, 2 coats of a quality primer then spray some tan on there and you should be good to go.
