Low battery reading

I was driving home at night and noticed my lights not as bright. Noticed my battery guage going down. Today drove about 4 mi and now it runs but is at the very bottom of the guage and my ABS light came on. It is a 02 XLT with the 6 and the battery is 3 years old. The battery reads only 11.7 volts which is low. How do I test the alternator and regulator and could a bad battery be the cause and kick off the ABS light because it is not getting enough juice?

Local auto parts stores such as AutoZone, Advance, etc., should be able to test the alternator and battery. I would start there. A low battery can cause all kinds of problems. I recommend getting them both checked because if you replace the battery and the alternator is no good the new battery won't last long.
