Every day I start my day driving, my Explorer seems to "lurch" as im first driving out. I would say it would be like im pressing the gas realy hard and letting go a few times in a row (like Im learning to drive a stick or something) It jerks everybody in the car around and because I lurch forward, Im afraid I might hit something. Any idea whats causing this? It seems to only be when I first start the car after its sit for awhile.

I dont think so... Im not sure, but I think mine occurs usually only once, and it seems like its in first gear only.... Ill see if I can pay more attention when it happens, but it could be on the shift to 2nd. You know what it feels like? A rev limiter going off under acceleration.... but im hardly moving.

I experience that same lurch on my 2006 Mountaineer, V-8 AWD when it is cold. I think it may haves to do with the shifting problems in the 6 speed tranny's

The linked thread abouve just mentioned the problems on 06 models and 07 sport tracs... perhaps it extends further? I guess I can take it in, but I hope they dont give me crap about my KKM installed.

I would put the stock intake back on and reset the computer. See if it clears up. Possibly the MAF is getting bad readings and the engine is having trouble maintaining A/F.

Either way the dealer is likely to blame the KKM and not take the problem seriously.

Have you tried scanning for codes?

Well I know its not actually the KKM... at least im pretty sure. It has been doing this sence before the KKM was installed. I just thought my foot was a little twitchy at first. Man I dont wanna put that air box back on. lol

Mine does the same thing every once in a while. Did you get this fixed?
Thanks!

Even if it was doing it before the KKM was installed and you're 110% positive it isn't the intake, still put the stocker back on, because as soon as some dealers see an aftermarket part, they'll close the hood and say that they can't figure it out, because it's been modified with non-Ford parts and systems. Sucks, but that's how a lot of dealers are- or they'll charge you $$$ to fix it just because.

Not sure if this thread is dead or not but I'll post anyway. I owned a Mustang GT 4.6L 2 valve engine 5-speed for several years and it would do the same thing when cold. I now own an '07 Explorer with a 4.6L 3 valve automatic and it does the same thing when cold.
When the problem first happened on the Mustang my Dad's neighbor mentioned that his buddy owned a cobra with the 4.6L 4 valve, and it did the same thing.
I've owned 3 vehicles with the 4.6L and none have ever burned oil or seized up. My advice is to stay light on the gas until it warms up.

Is there any quick way to tell if my Ex has had this TSB applied already? vs an older version? (I have a contact at the dealer I can email)

Is this the same as the "hard shifting" TSB?
