Ive got a 94 b3000 2wd with 5spd m5r1. About a year ago, my tranny went boom due to a fluid leak I was unaware of while someone else was driving my truck. When it went out it had nothing but 4th gear to get me back home. I managed to wind it out in 4th gear from a dead stop and make it home where the truck would sit for a while due to limited time to work on it.
Nine months later, I was feeling good about having successfully rebuilt my first tranny (thanks to help from explorer forums) and having the truck back on the road. Until a couple weeks ago, it ran fine and was not leaking so I thought I had done it all right til the tranny started sounding funny in every gear. The day before it crashed again, it was very difficult going into 2nd. When it went out, I was trying to shift into 2nd and it would not go in gear. I pulled to the side of the road only to find out it was actually in gear with the shifter in neutral position. It seems to be stuck in 5th gear since I can feel the clutch engaging bit the truck will not move forward even if I wind out the rpms.
Now here's my question. When I disassembled the tranny, there were no shims on the input bearing race. Could my problem be as simple as adding some shims or is there more I need to look at when it's back on the ground?
