I was wondering if the 97 maf would work with the housing you can get from C&L or not?

I noticed in the pictures that some have posted that it was a different style sensor itself. I have a MAF off of a BMW that is 82mm so I wanted to see if it made a noticable diff on my 4.0 SOHC.I'm in the process of making my own cold air since I'm broke all the time and can't afford the fancy ones at this time.

Any input is appreciated thanks.

Are you saying that you want to use a BMW MAF on an Explorer ( SOHC )?

82mm is way too large for the SOHC NA.

not to be a noobie or anything but why? I would be interested in getting one of those maf's and putting it on my 4.0 ohv. I've been thinking up my own custom intake and was going to just secure the maf to the pvc I was going to build it out of, either 3 inch or jump to 4 inch at the maf to the filter....

Bigger is not better.

I want the BMW housing but put the ford MAF electronics in it. The pattern looks close may take some fine tunning but it will work.

I know that bigger not always better in some cases. I have the part available and I can reduce it from the maf back. I plan on running exhaust, remaping the ecu or going to MS and a different intake in the future so I'm trying to get all the peices together before I start.

I guess my main question is would your maf (aldive) work with my ecu?

Well the one in the pics you have up, looks different than mine. Mine is a 97 and the MAF housing has the air port passage deal in it. So it has the two wires and looks way different than yours.

Or was i looking at the wrong picture in your C&L maf install pics #3? Mine is the style in the maf cleaning write up.

So is your style possibly an updated part?

'97 is aluminum one piece (Yours)
'98 is aluminum or plastic (Mine was aluminum, I upgraded to plastic)
'99 is plastic (aldive)

The difference in the photo's is aldive is running a 73mm C&L MAF body with his '99 plastic MAF guts.

You should be able to swap your '97 (Aluminum) MAF for a '98+ Plastic MAF (as I did) without any problems. This will allow you to upgrade to the C&L MAF if that is where you are headed...

Thanks Fredness. That's what I was assuming but you know where that usually get ya.

Mine is bad now so I would like to upgrade if there was one and sounds like there is thanks again.

Sorry for not being clearer in the begining. Wish I could transfer pics to help.
