The best oil thread made me wonder what else can be done to increase the ability of the oil to maintain the engine? It has been proven that items like Slick50 are bogus and do more harm than good, http://skepdic.com/slick50.html

I am intrigued by the Magnetic Oil Plug though, I saw this many years ago and think Summit Racing offered it, it does make a lot of sense. The magnetic oil plug link below seems expensive but it gives you an idea about this type of product.

Has anyone had experience with using a magnetic oil plug? Does anyone know the size of the plug used on a V6 Sohc engine?

Bypass filtration is a great way to increase the life of an engine.

My blazer had one, everytime I changed the oil there was a thin coat of graphite like material on it. This engine also had a misfire problem which COULD of been a sticking lifter. So I can't say for sure that you'd see that result all the time, but they work.

Al, What do you mean by bypass filtration?

Auto manufacturers tell us that the dirt that does the most harm and causes the most wear in an engine is from 5 microns ( a micron is one millionth of a meter ) up to 20 microns in size. If you could remove this dirt from your oil system, you should be able to virtually eliminate wear. While the majority of full flow filters on the market only remove particles as small as 20 to 40 microns. An Amsoil Bypass Oil Filter will remove dirt particles as small as 1/10th of a micron. This system not only provides unrivaled filtration but also adds more than a quart of oil capacity.

Take a look at my system at http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=126111&highlight=amsoil+bypass
