so here goes i have an occasion problem shifting into first from nuetral in my manual exploder. it doesnt want to go in and i have to push it down into second then quick up into to first to make it work. it feels like im moving the whole tranny when i do this i was wondering if the transmission holding bracket is loose or if you guys think this could be something else. it doesnt happen all the time usually after i have been driving it and come to a stop. also notice that if i slip it in as im slowing down then i can move it into neutral then back to first with no problems. any ideas?

That is almost always the slave going out. If you pump the clutch a few times does it go in?

I believe there is a lock out on it.

The synchros don't want you to go from like 4-1. You need to hit 2 first.

I could be wrong on this, but I believe it's how their designed. Has it just started doing this (like it allowed you to go from 5-1 or 4-1 before)?
If it has always done this I think you're going to have to learn to not try to skip so many gears downshifting.

no its not downshifting thats the issue. its when im stopped especially when its cold it just doesnt want to engage first from say when i reverse out of a parking spot. it just feels like it hit a wall

The slave cyl/throwout bearing is The #1 problem with the 5-speed. Most likely, it will gradually get worse over the next year or more. You can learn to drive it with the problem, or change it out, meaning drop the trans.

Mine is stubborn to go into 1st gear at a stand still. If the vehicle is moving a little, it slips into 1st. Aggravating to say the least, as I have to place it in gear before it comes to a complete stop or the fight is on. That means holding the clutch pedal down during the entire light cycle. If not... Light turns green, and I'm struggling to get it in gear. :(

If a throwout bearing is the cause of this, that trans is coming out, and a new one installed!
