Manual T-Case

So, I know the manual transfer case was an option on the
91-94 but not very common. Does anyone know if you can
order the manual t-case from a ford dealership? I know
its made by BW but what is the model? Is the swap from
electric to manual difficult, besides cutting a hole in the
floor? I just want a more reliable t-case but don't want
to spend a fortune, it's just something about that electic
motor.....................

Don't even think about buying a unit from the dealership unless you just hit the lotto. If you have that kind of money to spend I would recommend an Atlas II instead.

I've found manual t-cases for ~$300 at local junk yards. It should be an easy swap and I believe there is already a (plugged) hole in the floor for the shifter.

Yes, there is a pan in the floor board for the manual, but you will have to get that also. If you have the manual shift 4X4 you'll need a pan with two holes.

The manual was very common on 91 - 92 Explorer Sports, this was part of the package. The transmission is a Mazda and is still being used today on Rangers, Explorers and F-150s.

The manual T-Case isn't neccesarily stronger, it just doesn't have an electric motor than can give out. Other than the shift mechanism, the two are exactly the same. If your upgrading for strength then it's not really worth it. If your upgradeing because you like the manual over the button then have at it!

Oops! Thought you meant manual transmission.

I have the electric 4X4 and it isnt working now either. I thought about switching, but it would be very expensive to do. If I were you I would fix/replace the electric, that is what I plan to do.
