I recently started having issues with my tranny. When I put it in gear, the thing fights me something fierce. It has only done it the past few days (which were very hot), but I am worried it may become a problem soon. The clutch was fine when I put the engine in 500 miles ago, and very meaty, but the flywheel had a little bit of heat cracking. I don't think that would have anything to do with it going into gear cause it still had plenty of life left. I probably should have been smart and gotten the flywheel turned down a bit, but it's just a beater anyway. So, any ideas? Mike

My explorer had problems going into gear for a long time until I finally had the slave cylinder replaced and then now it goes into gear fairly easily.

check the hydraulic fluid level in the resivoir because that happened to me once where my fluid level was down and I got some air in the system but I just filled it up and bled it and it shifted fine after that

I check the fluid every time I open the hood. ( twice a day) It's definately full, but I may just have to bleed it and put new fluid in anyway. The stuff in there now is pretty nasty looking. Thanks for the input. Mike

Check the transmission fluid. If water has gotten in it can cause hard shifting. Try replacing it with synthetic fluid.
