Marvels Mystery in 5.0L Crankcase?!

So did anyone have any good luck with unsticking lifters? I have a loud one right now and I was going to do an oil change and throw a quart of MMO in. The bottle says that it's safe to run 20%, so I'm going to do it and see what happens.

I helped a friend unstick a sticky lifter about two weeks ago in an old truck with a quart of ATF. Worked like a charm. :)

Just run any synthetic engine oil. It will have better detergent proprieties and not mess with lubrication.

Marvel Mistery Oil, based on their published MSDS sheet, is composed of 'ortho-dichlorobenzene' and 'Mineral Spirits'.
Definitely not very lubricating... I would rather use ATF temporarily.

PS: 'Mineral Spirits' AKA 'Nafta' is one of the main ingredients in Seafoam too... It's the stuff originally created for drycleaners, paint thinners.

I have a persistant sticky lifter as well (Ranger, 2.9L V6) and was told either MMO or ATF. It used to respond to 1Qt. of Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer, but that stopped working...Based on what I've read here, I'm going to try the MMO. Otherwise, I don't know what else the solution could be other than replacing the lifters. Any other suggestions are very welcome, thanks!

My dad was an aircraft mechanic \ co-pilot in WW II. He told me they would put a quart of kerosene in the engine and let the engine run of about 10 minutes before an oil change.

No problems.

His theory was "Do you really want to loose and engine at 15,000 feet 500 miles over the ocean form no where?".

Change the oil more often because all of that "Goo" could wash out and clog your oil pick up screen.

I'd recommend a flushing product of your choice right before your change then a synthetic 0w-20 oil with a shot of Archoil.

That's all I got.
