my 2000 protoge 1.8 DOHC. i replaced the timing belt+removed head and did cleaning+valvejob...(had a intake leak causung lots of carbon buildup and id suspect the culprit of the valveseals going...)
RUNS(well i havent taken it much past idle)GREAT so i know the timing is correct.
it makes a noise from the timing belt id suspect its too tight.. i removed the lower belt cover to gain access to the tensioner. ive loosened the main bolt and cant seem to remove enough tension from my new taught belt to make it sound good..
i know ive got the lower cover off but it sounds diesel like under the hood...everything i can find says the belt is too tight.(feels maybe a bit too tight but imho doesnt appear to have too much or little diflection
this should be the same motor as a miata and a few other models...
How the hell do i loosen this belt up???
Thanks for any input,
Will
