I'm looking for a mechanic in north Atlanta (around Alpharetta) who does good work with Ford Explorers, in particular 4wd.

I have a 97 Mountaineer. It has a vibration about 70 mph. I've read the threads here and realize it could be (driveshaft balance, CV joints, motor mounts). So I need someone who can fix this without trying a bunch of different things.

Any help is appreciated.

I dont know a mechanic in N Atlanta but let me ask you when was the last time you had the tires balanced. You may want to try that first. May even be free if you have the road hazard warrenty. If not it is pretty cheep to have done.

Balanced a few months ago when I put new tires on it. It was happening before the tires and I thought tires would fix it. It didn't.

There is also a "thunk" on initial acceleration and initial deceleration. I'm thinking it's the mounts/cvs/drive shaft.

I've had some good luck with Cooper Lake Automative in Smyrna. Off South Cobb Drive.

btw - are you Pi Kappa Phi?
