ok guys before u jump all over me, i searched the forums and coudnt find anything. my question is i have a 1991 explorer 4 door and the stock exhaust sounds suprisingly pretty dam good. i was wondering though because i dont have the money to buy a dual exhaust system yet, how much louder it would be compared to stock if i was to dump it and cut the pipe off right after the muffler. because i heard the less pipe u have after the muffler the louder it will be, and i want it to be louder.
thanks guys

Well, the biggest difference that cutting the rear pipe would make is that you'd hear it more from the drivers seat since the exit would be closer. The muffler is whats keeping the exhaust quiet, so if you really want a louder exhaust, you'll want a different muffler, probably a performance one. I wouldn't suggest a dual exhaust, theres not much point on the V6 and it just costs more. The easiest thing to do is buy a cat-back system like a Dynomax, Flowmaster, etc, or just have an exhaust shop replace your muffler. If you want loud, a straight-through muffler will do the trick nicely. Save yourself the time and hassle and don't mess with whats on there until you are putting new exhaust stuff on.
