Moon Roof Doesn't Open Completely

My moon roof has probably been this way forever, but I just noticed that when I push the button for it to open, it stops about 4 inches short of being completely open. When I push the button again, it moves the additional 4 inches.

Do other people's do that? If so, does anyone know why?

Mine works the same way.

I'm only guess here but it may be to lessen wind noise/buffeting. They only way to confirm that would be to take it down the highway using both positions and see if it makes a difference. If I recall correctly, I believe my previous Highlander did the same.

Right on the money Peter. From the first printing of the 2013 Owners Guide:

Opening and Closing the Moonroof

Press and release the SLIDE control to open the moonroof. The
sunscreen, if closed, will automatically open prior to opening the
moonroof. The moonroof will stop short of the fully opened position.
Note: This position helps to reduce rumbling wind noise which may
happen with the roof fully open. Press and release the SLIDE control
again to fully open the moonroof.

You'll find that info on page 113, under "Windows and Mirrors"

Thanks Vince. I looked in my 2011 manual, 1st printing, before posting and it does not mention that Note. It is also on page 114 and under Driver Controls. I guess they must update from time to time which is good. I find the manual is not the most user friendly booklet I've ever read.

Every moon roof I've ever had has been this way, going back 13 years.

Hmmm...mine used to do that, but now it seems that it goes all the way on the first press of the button... Maybe I'm confused... I'll recheck. Could it be automatic based on the speed of the vehicle?? Cuz that would be way cool! Lol.
