1995 Sport
Sorry you feel that way. I have 2 Explorers. A 1995 Sport and 2008 XLT each with well over 200K miles on them. While I have experienced recalls over the years, I appreciated that Ford tends to to voluntary recalls more than some other manufacturers. While some are required by federal agencies, a lot are not, but Ford processes them anyway. I work on Ford and other vehicles as a hobby and passion and often run into working on other makes or share stories with friends looking for advice. Issues and repairs on other vehicle types run into the thousands. Do I think Ford gets a bad rap... sometimes.
I own and work on a Jag so I know what issues, high price parts and service is all about. The Explorers I own are part of 7 cars in my stable. The Explorers tend to the be the ones with the least problems.
The good news is that the new era of cars and trucks is upon us, Maintenance and general mechanical work may be declining with the introduction (reintroduction) of electric vehicles. We own a Mustang Mach-e and maintenance is pretty much nil. Ford trucks including the Explorer will follow.
Will there be recalls, yes. We actually have a windshield sealant recall on the Mach-e. Probably a reaction as windshields are part of the airbag safety system. Not sure of the exact problem, just sounds like the sealant used did not meet a higher standard. I really dont think it will be falling off.
Can't agree more with the grass is greener comment. For years it seems imports were more reliable. I can tell you that all IC cars/truck will run into problems, it is the nature of the technology. When I find out that my friends imports need work, the cost for part and to fix are astronomical in comparison. My Explorers are still running, the cars/trucks they bought at the same time are long gone...
