I just got a 1999 Explorer with the 4.0L SOHC motor. Upon start up it has a clatering noise, almost like lifters that have bled down. As soon as it has run for 2 seconds(or less) the noise goes away. Any ideas what it could be? Lifters? Timing chains?

Also can someone tell me which trans is in it? 1999,4x4, 4.0l SOHC.
The owners manual says it's a 5R55E, but I bought a filter for that trans and it wasn't the right one......

Thanks in advance for any help.

hydraulic chain tensioner - it's probably leaking down and it rattles after sitting a while until the pressure builds back up - pretty common.

That sounds right....How harmful is it? Is it hard to replace?

Any ideas on what trans I have?
