Motor turns before tranny installed and then doesn't when bolted in. PLEASE HELP

I rebuilt my A4LD and that went smooth up until I went to put it back in. After tightening the 4 torque converter bolts I tightened the transmission to engine bolts. The motor will no longer turn by hand at this point.If I back off the tranny bolts 1/4 inch than motor turns manually again. Is the torque converter too fat? The drive shaft or linkage is not connected. I am leaving CA in 2 weeks to go back home from the military and need my truck to drive. Can someone please help?

Are you SURE, DOUBLE sure, even TRIPLE sure that you have PROPERLY seated the torque converter into the transmission input shaft?

If the Transmission turns independantly. And the motor turns independantly....but locks up with the TC in place....you don't have the TC seated properly.

did you put the tc on the input shaft before you put the trans in or did you bolt it the to flex plate first

it gotta be the torque converter binding. You have to get it seated all the way down in the trans.. then put the trans on the motor and then push the converter towards the motor and then bolt it in..

If you do it out of order you can get it bound up.. which is way on the bad side of the good/bad scale.

Definatley sounds like the TC isn't seated correctly. If you can put any of your finger tips between the TC and bellhousing, then it's not seated. This is a simple rule of thumb I learned a long time ago. Bailey.

Still having issues..Wrong TC possibly? Thanks for the replies.

I have taken the tranny back off and on 3 different times. I am positive it is lined up and pushed all the way back on the tranny before bolting to motor. Engine turns manually until last 1/8 inch is closed by tightening tranny bolts.Then I can't even spin the motor to bolt the converter bolts. Before tightening the tranny bolts that last 1/8 inch I can hear the TC rubbing if I turn the motor by hand. Is it possible the output shaft on the torque converter is too long or short. I have done some research and there are a few different applications for this setup. I ordered it over the phone from a tranny shop. I gave them my make and model. I'm thinking they messed up and sent me the wrong stuff. The pack slip says 4.0 motor and low stall. Here is the model of the TC: F-57RDAA I have a 92 XLT. Does someone know if this is the wrong TC?
