Your wheels are supposed to spin opposite . That means the rear end is doing it job. Look for obvious signs thats usually all it is. Loose muffler, loose heat shield, exhaust banging exhaust on a cross member. Get down there and look your not gonna find it posting questions on here. Good luck

Wrong

the rattle is in the differential and also a loud whining sound is coming from it i think.
the wheels do not want to move freely and when in neutral when the wheels are spun the drive shaft doesn't im sure the pinion gears are gone inside of it
but im haveing trouble finding the differential or the gear kit my gear ratio is 3.73 at least thats what the dealership told me when i gave them the vin

ok i had the same problems with my 2002 mounty. the ratle is a heat shield and the truck not moving freely when in drive is cause ur transfer case is bad. the viscous coupling needs to b replaced. that explains the whining noise too. its cause the transfer case isnt leting the front diff slip. its acting like a locked differental. i had all these problems and they r now fixed.

well its definitely not the heat shield rattling because its coming from the back while driving. The noise sounds more like a chain being dragged or spinning off a sprocket not saying that it is a chain. I stood on the running boards and let my wife drive it down the road and I know for a fact the noise is coming from the rear end.

ok then its not the heat shield. but does the transfer case thing still apply?

when the truck is in the air in neutral and you turn the drive shaft do the wheels spin?

from the sound of it, the muffler in the back of the truck not the small one but dead center drivers side broke apart inside. hit it with a rubber mallet does it rattle?
