My 2005 tranny is grinding...

My '05 Explorer's transmission started making a grinding noise when going uphill and shifting into a lower gear. Once at the top of the hill and shifting into overdrive, it jerks slightly and the noise stops. It's an A/T V6 with only 41K miles on it. What do you think it is? I had a tranny flush at a Ford dealer two weeks ago.

People often confuse transfer case noises with transmission noises. Do not rule out a transfer case issue in your analysis. But like Wrench says, sounds more like FORD's problem under warranty. Let us know what they find out.

Warranty expired at 36K. Should I take it to a dealer or a tranny shop?

I would also suspect the transfer case. Find out how much the dealer charges for diagnosing the problem. You could also check WWW.ATRA.Com for a certified shop in your area.
