- 1993 Explorer, 5 Speed
I've searched around for about an hour, and I can't find a definite answer on the solution to my problem so I'm going to try here. Either that or I'm just really scared and refuse to accept the real answer.
Anyway, I own a 5 Speed 93 Explorer. It has 118,000 miles on it, although I bought it from a friends at 110,000.
Within the past week, I've been experiencing transmission problems. Basically it seems to grind (I've also heard it described as a whirling sound) when it is in reverse and 1st. It only happens about 50% of the time, and only when I'm not moving. So when I first shift it to 1st it may grind, but the second I accelerate it goes away. Same for reverse. The shifting seems to fight me sometimes, but other times it works perfectly.
I had a friend of mine suggest a transmission fluid problem, but my dad is thinking worst case scenario.
If you could please give some information or lead me in the direction of an answer I would appreciate it. Apologies if this is a redundant question, and I'm just horrible at the search function.
I tried to provide all the information I could, but if you all have any more questions I'm sure I could find more.
