About a month ago there started an audible clicking sound I could hear with the windows rolled down that basically sounds like a rock is caught in the tread. It becomes much more audible when I turn left. The right side may make the noise, but it's harder to hear from the driver's side. While going straight the noise is barely audible, but again when I turn left it's pretty obvious. The duration between clicks is proportional to the speed I'm going. After 30mph or so there's too much outside noise to hear it, but I'm sure it's still clicking.

I have a '94 Explorer 4wd, any idea what the clicking noise is coming from?

It could be your autohubs trying to engage.. Next time this is happens just engage 4x4 by pushing the dash button and see if the noise stops (make sure your going 35mph or less and not taking a sharp turn). You can disengage the 4x4 a few seconds later and the Autohubs will/should remain locked. Now you can take some more turns and see if the sound is still there.
