I was driving quietly and suddently the motor went OFF .
Very scary so .....
Since then I cańt drive it anymore.
A little red key goes on and off on the board when I turn the key to on .
The mecanist said it was an electric problem but his scanner cańt read the error code .
he can erased them , when he did it the central door went on and off, same with the "glace whipped ", the lights ......
Sort of funny , strange ...

Well maybe one of you know what is going on and can help me ???
Or telling me how i could scan ?

Thank you very much for your Help
Val

Sounds like anti-theft. Does your explorer have a keyfob to unlock the truck?

What am i supposer to do And how do you explain that the motor turned off as i was driving ?

(Girls And mecanics areńt friends ;-))))

Sounds like you are in France. You may need to find a Ford dealer to take care of the problem. The PATS (passive anti-theft system) is quite complicated and changed several times over the years, probably making it too much for the expertise of your mechanic or his scanner.

However, the first thing to do is to check the fuses for the PATS system. There is more than one. Take a good look at your driver's manual - they will be listed there. If you don't have a manual, I am sure that one of the members here with a '97 will post them for you.

This does sound like something with the security system. One of my cars have two keys, one with a fob and one without. The third time I used it, it was dark and I put the key in without the fob (both keys are on the same chain) and it started right up. As I started to pull out of the parking lot, the car just suddenly died. When I put the key in with the fob, it worked just fine for the rest of the drive.

I'm not thinking that the key you used was incorrect however, DjDom and 1998Exp are right that the anti theft system would have caused it to just shut off if it could no longer detect the fob for one reason or another.

Oui je suis française ;-)))))

I have a second key but don't use it .....
All the fuses are ok, he looked into the book....
He said to me his scanner is too recent to describe the error which are detected as " impossible":-(

What could i do then ?

Any Ford dealers don't want to take it for a diag , saying it is too old .....
1997 .......

I understood something !!!!!!!!

My explorer broke down ( or broke out ??) while driving and because of the music on, the warning lights the battery went empty .
When we charged it , the security went on ...

So I've got to find out how to go throught the security system and then find what happened with the motor ......

Piouuuuuu!!!!!!! Hard work !!!!:-((((
