I am in the process of importing my '03 into Canada. Of course to pass inspections I need to add DRL (daytime running lights). Now for the life of me, I can't find anything written up on this process - I refuse to go to a dealer to get this done and my Haynes manual only shows a electric diagram (I'm no electrician, but I can handle some basic-intermediate wiring).

My question is - what type of system is used here? Is there a single module connection or are there different connections for Relays and Resistors located in the truck somewhere? If you know where these are, can you please take a picture or even just let me know where they are. Better yet - part numbers would also be great. I want to get this done while I'm still in the US.

Your help is much appreciated.

I am not also an expert in electrical but by finding the good wires for you front lights you could bypass them by plugging them on a relay. As soon as you start the truc kthe relay activate the lights. Find the power wire that bring the voltage to the light switch and use it to power the relay then make other connections.

Yea, I have the Haynes manual and it shows where the wires must be ran...however it kinda scares me...too many wires going elsewhere in the car, and there seems to be two "modules" that need to be attached. I know, from reading other forums, that the F-150 has places to just plug in the resistors and relay modules. So did my old Taurus...I'm just wishing it was easier than hacking up some wires and soldering in new ones.

If anyone can take a picture of the location - that'd be a huge help

edit***

Just found this on Wiki

"on the 2002 Ford Explorer 4 door, the daytime running lights (DRL)

relay is in the power distribution box in the engine compartment

located in location # 51, There is also a 10 amp fuse for the DRL in the

power distribution box in location # 14 and a 5 amp fuse in the fuse

panel located under the instrument panel on the driver's side in

location # 30"

If anyone could tell me what the Relay number is in slot #51 then maybe I could check to see if that is a remedy - doubt it tho.

You can buy the DRL kit right from Ford. I've seen it in my '04 accessories brochure. Even thought about doing it to mine just to add a little "unique-ness" to it.

Edit: The parts guy at my Ford dealership rules!
Try this one on for size: F6SZ 13B 218 AA
It has a suggested list price of $71.90 USD. None of the local warehouses here had one, but maybe by you it'll be in stock somewhere.

Well, since you have an XLS, I guess that you could be a little creative, and put some fog lights in the holes in the bumper, and connect them to a relay that turns on any time the key is set to "on".. that might be a little cheaper or easier.

Otherwise, I can't think of anything other then the Ford DRL module.
