I have a '96 Ford Explorer and the headlight switch is stuck on the middle setting (I think its called the parking lights). My headlights will not turn on or off at all.

It started when my sister drove my car one night. She thought she might need the high-beams so she pulled at the knob thinking the highs would finally come on. She tried it three times until it finally took the knob off. She was not able to turn the lights off from that point. She let me know what happened and I grabbed pliers to turn them on/off. I continuously tried to put the knob back on, but no luck. I did not think it was a big deal until about two weeks later. I went to DC and my lights would not turn off at all. I lucked out and my headlights turned on only to shut off again while I was on the way home...definitely got pulled over. All I know right now is my headlight switch seems to be stuck on that one setting and I am trying to figure out what I should do. Is it as easy as getting a new headlight switch and installing it...or could it be something more?

Looks like a trip to the wreckers with a $5 bill
