I know that this is sort of a no no but I have no other choice than to cut my coil springs to achieve the drop that I am looking for. 2.5"in the front and 3.5" in the rear. So far I haven't found a company based in America that makes a drop more than a 1.6". What are going to be the repercussions of the springs being cut?

I thought you had torson bars? Just turn them down.

my mounty is a 2wd

You're going to be replacing your tires every 6 months because your truck will not be alignable, especially in the rear. You'll be putting your rear CVs at a pretty wicked angle, which will wear them exponentially faster.

And finally, you'll be left with a broken ass because the ride will be terrible. You know, minor repercussions.

Lower it 1.6", put some 22's and call it good. Alignment and driveablity would be more important to me than being lowered (or lifted)

Its got 22x 9.5's on it right now. The truck has about 6.5 inches of clearance, I was hoping for at least 2.5-3 inches of drop to allow for bumps or for a couple of passengers that may drop the truck a tad.

6.5" of clearance does not equate to 6.5" of extra suspension travel.

the suspension has roughly 2" of travel.

Whatever floats your boat I guess but I have never cared for lowered SUVs. It kind of destroys the functionality of the vehicle. I would put a lift kit on my wife's minivan if I could find one....

Do you realize that your truck has struts, not just regular coil springs? I'm not even sure you can cut enough off the coil for a 3.5" drop without blowing the strut out.

airbags.......

does anybody make a airbag kit specifically for an 02?

hes got a point man... cutting the spring will have very little effect and will mess alot of things up... if u cut it, the shock absorber in the middle is gunna be the exact same length... itll make ur ride terribly bumpy to the point of numerous chiropractor visits... although i agree with a post made earlier about hating dropped SUVs, if ur gunna do it, do it to where u dont die or to where ur basically not flushing hundreds down a toilet... use ur head on this one

If you only have 2inches of compression travel then you would only be able to lower it 2inches anyway. Then you would be riding on steel on steel using only the tires to absorb any bumps. I'll bet you are running a very low profile tire on those rims which equals a VERY rough ride. I say lower it 1.6 inches with a kit or try to find an air ride system that will work. With the air ride you could lay it out at a show then raise it to a safe ride height to drive it. I've owned several low riders including an S-15 Jimmy that had no front springs in it when I bought it riding on 195/50-R15 tires..........It beat the HELL out of me on the way home!!!! My point is this .....if you have the money to throw away on fixing what breaks then cut the springs....or use some of that money to lower it the right way and use the rest on other things that you would like to have on your truck. Just my 2 penneys.

Yankee.........OVER and OUT!!!:salute:

well, I finally did the deed today. I cut out 3 coils in the front and 4 in the back. After several flex, bump, and highway tests, it was a huge success. The ride stiffened up just a little and took out some of the bounciness that plagues most third gens . The front and back still have to be realigned but, I would recommend this to anyone.

****I will have some good picks to post tomorrow.****
