'03 Mounty
Okay guys, looks like I have a new toy. Today I'll take delivery of a 2003 Mountaineer. I'm very excited, and plan to expect as much, if not more of this truck than I did with my 1994 XLT X. The Mounty is silver with light-colored interior, (the color of which escapes me). V8 and AWD comprises the running gear.

I plan to drive this thing in every manner possible with the exception of how I drive my '74 3.0 Porsche, which, to say the least, is a whole different ballgame.

As for now, I would like to break the Mounty in properly, and exceed the manufacturer's stated maintenance schedules for oil changes and other maintenance-related issues. All advice in this regard will be greatly appreciated.

Lastly, I called Explorer Express about a supercharger for the V8. They claim one should be available by mid 2003 with about 300 rwhp. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks in advance for everything :)

isnt there a kenne bell supercharger for ur mounty? check into that..
from what i heard about breakin in cars, just dont drive too fast or too hard for the first 500-1000 miles. dont redline, just take it easy. otherwise.. enjoy ur new mounty and congrats:D

i think saleenexp is going to be pissed, hes been waiting a long time for a silver mounty :p

I will second jssong. You should avoid driving at one engine speed for prolonged times during the 1st 1000 miles. Definately avoid sustained high speed driving during the 1st 1000 miles.

Owners manual should say something in the first few pages about it. My 97 says:

"There are no particular rules for breaking in your vehicle. Simply avoid driving too briskly during the first 1600km (1000miles) of driving. Vary speeds frequently. This is necessary to give the moving parts a chance to break in.

If possible, you should avoid full use of the brakes for the first 1600km (1000 miles).

From 1600km (1000 miles) onwards you can gradually increase the performance of your vehicle up to the permitted maximum speeds."

Since you can increase the 'performance' after 1000 miles, I guess that means you can add the supercharger then :D

hey if you want to know about the s/c it is a kenne bell twin screw supercharger. one bad muthu of a s/c. talk to either saleenxp or blk_mk8. saleen is getting a 2002 mounty and getting the k/b s/c in it. and blk_mk8 is putting it in for him. i think he quoted him at like $3600 or so for it, but it is better to ask to be sure. good luck.
