Yesterday while I was four wheeling, my sub started to make rattling noises. It got to the point where the sound that was emitted from the speakers was almost unrecognizable. I took it apart today and looked at the cone. As far as I can tell the cone isn't damaged. I was wondering if it was worth replacing, or should I get an entirely separate sub with its own amp. I am planning on getting a new cd player.
Thanks.

The cone doesn't have to be visibly damaged for the sub to be damaged. If the stock sub was cheap, which it probably is compared to aftermarket, when you were four wheeling, the voice coil may have hit and grounded ruining the sub, because the magnet wasn't large and powerful enough to keep in in place for your off-roading use. This stuff is only worth replacing to you depending on how much you want to spend. If you were happy with the original sound, a 6.5 inch speaker isn't hard to find, and it will probably still sound better than the original. I don't know how much power the stock sub amp gives, but probably no more that 100 rms at most, so you won't need to buy an incredibly expensive sub. I believe someone in this forum hollowed out the existing sub box, and put in a larger driver. Do a search in this forum for it. That way you could stick an 8 in there if you wanted, keep the stock amp, and the box, and you won't break the bank till you're ready.

Good luck!
