hey ya'll what i plan to do next spring...in the X is running 2 12 inch Cerwin Vega DVC HED series subs they hold 200 watts rms and i'll put them in a custom box which will include amp racks and neon sound activated tubes, I'll power these 2 subs with a fosgate punch 400.4 since it puts out 200 watts RMS into 4 ohms, (also its a little underrated) so i think that should push the subs quite well. the 2 vega HED 12's, punch 4 amp, and another sound activated tube runs me 475 from sounddomain.com...

i already have an optima battery and pioneer tweeters, and a pioneer amp to run them.

what do you guys think??
what tweeking should i think about before i plan to buy this stuff?
and suggestions?

thanks,
ryan

are you making a sealed box or ported? i hope you're not planning on bandpass. those subs are meant for SQ, and we all know bandpass has terrible SQ. and it has a narrow frequency range. a good ported box will give you plenty of BOOM while keeping the sound quality.

sounds like a good setup so far. what speakers are you using?

What do you think?

Im thinkin of going with a
a2300hcx amp (2400 watts) for the sub,
2 - a2401x amps for the front and rear,
aex350x crossover
awt12 sub (2000 watts rms)
abc6003 components for the front
acx682 speakers for the rear
acap1x cap - 1 farad

you guys have any suggestions on anything else??
im gonna put the sub in the location where the stock jbl sub is.. gonna need some work.. fiberglass the inside, custom enclosure.. but getting that done professionally.. and probably gonna raise my trunk floor to put the 3 amps and crossover, with plexiglass over it with neon to make it look nice.. any suggestions or comments?

you're on the right track to an amazing SQ/SPL vehicle...
BUT...
the AWT12 needs a much bigger box than you could ever fit in the stock location (check out the XMAX on that thing, and the VAS). also that amp is way too powerful for the sub (maybe if you get the AWT18, or AWT34). that amp will put out close to 4000 watts RMS in your explorer! Audiobahn severely underrates their amps @12volts. the stock explorer's electrical system runs at 14-15 volts. you will need a better alternator too.

you basically need a better alternator (200 amps or more)
a bigger enclosure for the subwoofer
and at least two 1 farad capacitors (or one 3 farad cap, which would be better) for the sub amp.

but it will be an awesome, competition winning system

leejen,
i'm going with the new Cerwin vega HED series 12's

no no i'm building a sealed box, thats whats recommended i believe.

i just want some thump..and i've heard that the vega hed's won't dissapoint...they'll give me plenty of bump with the fosgate 400 hooked to them

yeah that'll be great. those subs are great for the price.
it's about time Cerwin Vega started producing good all around subs again. they used to be one of the best manufacturers. now it looks like they are doing things right again:)

leenjen

the amp is too powerful? well i was thinkin of runnin the amp at half power... cus i dont want it to overheat.. cus i doubt ill but a cooling fan for it. and im gonna get the sub professionally installed.. plans were to fiberglass the inside of the stock sub location, and make a custom enclosure for it.. and alternator upgrade? maybe.. i was thinkin another battery.. but not sure.. suggestions?

believe me, that amp will NEVER overheat. they are extremely efficient. also there are 2 built in cooling fans.
you're much better off having a box made going behind the rear seats. you can extend it from the left side to the right, so the box wont have to be deep. but the sub wont perform anywhere near it's potential in less than 2.7cuft.
another battery might be a good idea, but it isn't as important as the alternator.
for the AWT12, i think you should get the A2200HCX. that will provide plenty of power to that subwoofer.

oh, i just saw what you meant by half power. the AWT12X has dual 1 ohm voice coils. that means you will run it @2 ohms. then yes, the amp you were originally planning on will work fine with that subwoofer. the good thing about it is that you can just add another subwoofer for a 1 ohm load, and get twice the output.
sounds great. but definately get the alternator

i was gonna go with a box, but it looks too ugly. or if i made or got one installed professionally.. maybe.. but i dont want to lose the cargo room. or the ability to fold down the rear seats and carry things, so i was gonna get the sub installed there... i do understand the more room you give the sub, the better the sound, but in order to lose the minimal amount of space.. i was thinkin where the stock sub goes. but im considering a box now, behind the rear seats.. but ill keep you posted on my plans as soon as i get enough $$$..

since you really want a custom stock location enclosure, why not use an ALUM12? they dont have such a large magnet structure, and will probably sound better than the titanium in the small enclosure (even though bigger is still better with them too). good luck with your system.

oh, you dont have to make a regular carpeted box...
you can make a fiberglass painted box, or cover it with vinyl that matches your interior. that would look sweet..

for _really_ good prices try thezeb.com. form what i hear they are a great dealer, and give their own warantees because they arn't an officail dealer because they dont charge enough.
