Hi, this will be my first post in these forums. Ive always come here to look at other post but i'd figure i'd make my first post by asking for a little help. So here's what i got.

99 Ford Explorer XLT 5.0V8 2WD
160,000 miles
only changes ive made(besides fire department stuff) is a K&N air filter and 32 11.50 15's on the back axle.

I've had this car for a little over a year now and love it. But in the time ive had it ive found 1 thing that bothers me everytime I go out on a fire call that takes me offroad and into a little bit of mud...TRACTION. I dont know much about rear ends or axles but from what ive seen with this car only one wheel spins on the road or in the mud...the right rear one. Im not looking into getting another car with 4x4 and frankly i wont. But ive heard that the rear end can be locked making both rear wheels spin together no matter what and im curious on how to do this and how it works...perhaps also the cost of parts and labor to do it.

You will need a posi-trac or limited slip center section. Your old gears can still be used. Any competent shop should be able to help you out. As far as cost, I don't really know.

if you have an open diff then buy an aussie locker and put it in.
