Ok I'm going to be doing 2 CV's within the next week or so.

First up is my friends 97 F-150 V6. From what I've seen all I have to do is pull the hub/bearing assembly out and then the CV should just pull out right?

And then I'll be doing a CV on my X within the next week or so. I had a groan/whine sound come from the truck on left hand turns and thought it was my wheel bearings going out. So I replaced the front right side where the sound was coming from and that didn't fix the problem. I'm guessing its the CV. If anyone else thinks differently please let me know.

Peace!

It is not hard if you are familiar with your front suspension. Once you get it up in the air, turn your wheel all the way to one side and disconnect the upper control arm from the spindle via the pinch bolt. Pivot the spindle forward and it will give you enough clearance for the CV to come out of the spindle. Then just pull the CV out of the axle with a tug. Some fluid will come out. The procedure should be the same for an F150.

Thanks Hartman!

I'm gona start working on his truck in about 5 minutes. He was able to find the part today instead of waiting for tomorrow.

Wish me luck!!

Good luck. Tell us how it turns out.

Hah this is great.

I just went off the symptoms that he told me and told him to pick up a CV. (poping when turning hard, starting and stoping) Well I got under the truck and the CV's looked fine so we took it for a drive and I drove. I did everything I could to put strain on them and no sounds or anything out of the ordinary but there was a weird pop sound. I went to this little urban wheeling spot (constuction zone) and went really slow and listened for sounds. Then when I heard it I stoped and looked under the truck.

Turns out he just had a broke front swaybar end link!

But we're gona work on his truck again tonight because I checked his trans fluid and it was the color of dirty oil and stank like dead tuna ass! (he knows nothing about cars/trucks) We're gona put a trans cooler and do a flush tonight.

I'm gona hold off on doing my CV. I just don't see how a CV can cause what prob I'm having.
