Background.. vehicle has not been on road in over a year, vehicle was started, ran, driven short distances up until 7 months ago.

Weird stuff that happened today..

put new battery in vehicle, new battery terminals, key in on position all lights in dash illuminate, door chime works, dome lights do not. try to start vehicle get nothing but a loud click and everything powers down. cannot get dash lights to illuminate or doors to chime unless battery unhooked and then hooked back up. second time I put the key in the on position.. 6 secs later same loud click and everything powers down.

the truck is at my parents' so I dont get to work on it that much.. besides im usually fixing stuff on the sas'd explorer. any help or guidance is greatly appreciated. I am not the best when it comes to tracking down an electrical issue. I hope to get under the truck this weekend and check grounds and connections at the starter.

Either the battery is about dead or you have a loose connection. If it was seized engine or defective starter, the lights would come back on as soon as you released the key (but there might be smoke somewhere).

this battery is brand new.. battery I had in it still tested good. I can see a bad ground causing the starter not to kick over but the dash light thing has my puzzled.

That would be a loose/corroded B+.
