Hi, i flooded the engine on my 00xlt 6cyl ex. i was only in like a foot deep water crossing, but halfway through the engine just died, wouldnt start and had to have it towed back to my house.
i pulled the dipstick and it was a lil white, so i changed the oil twice now, it started after it dried up a bit. i popped out a couple spark plugs and tried to get the water out.

It does idle fairly well, but it blows out black water and white smoke from the tailpipe. when i gave it gas it sounded really rough and im afraid to drive it any distance at the moment. The check engine light flashes.

im not sure what the white smoke is caused from, it smells like gas. What im looking to know is what are the first things i should do, i already did oil changes and air filter , i bought spark plugs to put in, but the pass side is very hard to get at. are there any sensors i should check?
for the moment i would like to know things i can do without hooking it up to a computer, id like it to run a little better before i try to drive it. this all happened the weekend before last. so it has been sitting for a while. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Did the motor turn over after it died, or did you have to pull the plugs to get the motor to turn over? Most likely you just have some wet wiring or a sensor. Hopefully sitting didn't corrode any of the connectors. Unplug everything you can and blow it out with compressed air. If you can keep it in a warm garage with the connectors unplugged overnight. Other than that your shooting in the dark until you get the codes read.
