need this answer somewhat badly, I need to know how long the 4R70W (stock v8 X trans) is from the front of the bellhousing to the end of the tail shaft  (dont add the transfer case in to the measurment)
I cant order my tranny for my swap untill I find out the length of it with the explorer tailshaft :(

No. Shouldn't be.

yeah, i think the trannys are the same for the '96 and '99, all I know is the trans I'm looking in to buying is a new '99 4R70W for a awd v8 explorer

well, went car shopping with my father today and there was a few '99 v8 explorers at the place we went to so I stuck my head under to take a look, trans looks like it is the same length as the A4LD so i might go ahead and order it :D
either way I'm going to need the drive shafts relengthend

So you don't need me to crawl under there and measure anything for you? Cause I'll gladly do it.

Does this mean that the drivehafts are the same between all V6 and V8 4 door explorers?

well, I still need a mesurement of the trans if ya dont mind getting under there, didnt have a tapemesure with me at the dealership, as for the driveshafts... I have no clue, only way I could tell you that is to have a v6 and a v8 side by side or we can try to talk someone in to mesuring everything, might be a idea for a good info thread with all the diffrent Explorer mesurements, trans/t-case listings and all that other fun stuff so people dont lose their minds trying to find this info

bump: Still need the mesurement.... :(

Bump, thump.... still need a mesurement...
wonder how odd the looks I would get if I went to the used car section of the local dealer with a tapemeasure :)

Bump

still need it.....
