Need help on 98 Escort Fast

OK guys, My friend is selling his 98 Escort in about 2 hours and the damn CEL just came on. He has no haynes manual and we need to know a couple of things.
1. Is his car a OBD1 or OBD2?
2. Where is the damn connector, to hook up the reader.

He has to be at Auto Zone in 30 minutes, to rent a code reader.
Can any one help us out!!!!!

all vehicles after 96 are obdII. As for the plug location ???? most vehicles have them located under the steering wheel area.

correct. ODB-II and by mandate the connector is supposed to be under the drivers side dash.
