I'm pretty new to the whole car audio thing, but I have just recently purchased the major components of my system. Right now I have Alpine 9851 head unit. Waiting to be installed are Infinity KAPPA680.7CS components for up front, Infinity KAPPA682.7CP for the rear, and a Rockford Fosgate P4004 4 channel amp. I will also be putting in an Alpine 10 inch Type X subwoofer that will be powered by an Alpine MRD-M1005 mono amp.

My main question is, what would the ideal way to set all of this up? I don't really no whether having 2 amps makes a difference in the install or not. Right now I am under the impression the I need 2 amp kits, but I don't no if that is correct or not or if anything else would be required. Also, what gauge would the Alpine require? Any help would be greatly appreciated

the specs for each amp are...

ive never installed more than one amp, but i know rockford makes kits for multi amps, 4ga wire from battery to a distribution block, 8ga from that to the amps, comes with rcas and everything. stinger might make them too. possibly get a capacitor or alt upgrade as well. also dont run all your wires on one side, run rca's on the opposite side of the car from power.

looks like a good setup to me, let me know how those 680.7's sound, im looking at getting a pair of them.

hope that helps, if you need anything else just holler.

I felt like what you recommended made sense, but I was still alittle confused so I went over to Circuit City to see what they thought. The guy there recommended I buy this real big mulit amp kit
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Tsun...95661/catOid/-13107/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

and that i would also need to buy one 2 channel 17' RCA cable and then one 4 channel 17' RCA cable

does this sound about right? I kind of like the idea of buying the big kit because it has a cap in it, but I dont really know how to tell if it would be able to safely handle the rms rattings of my sub and speaker amp? Last question is, could i substitute the RCA's he recommended which together totaled about 120$ with something off ebay like these Stinger wires...

Dont buy a capacitor unless it is absolutely nessesary. Those stinger RCA's will do just fine.
This is what you will need:
4 gauge wire - long enough to run from the battery to where you are going to mount the amps.

8 gauge wire - from the distribution block to the 2 amps. and enough to ground each amp to a different part of the chassis

100 amp inline fuse - place the fuse close to the battery. this is for the 4 gauge power lead

Distrbution block - one 4gauge in/two 8gauge out.

3 sets of RCA cables - 1 set for front speakers, 1 set for rear speakers, and one set for sub.

10 gauge speaker wire - long enough to run from the amps to all the speakers and sub.

14 gauge wire - for the remote lead from the head unit to the amps. You will need enough wire to run to the amps and then be spliced into 2, one to each amp.

I bought alot of this stuff from Crutchfield and Etronics. Alot cheaper then the amp kits

I did my wiring for a cheaper price, but I had a odd setup. I have a two 12" Vegas powered by a 2 channel 800 watt soundstream amp. The guy who sold me his subs gave me his 1 farad cap for free, so I bought another 1 farad cap and wired them parallel to make a 2 farad power. You should have at least a 1 farad cap for each amp you are planning to use. If you bump the system at high volume, it tends to have the headlight/interior lighting dimming effect. I had a 300zx for a first car and I put a single 12" MTX Thunder 8000 sub in it running off of a 600 watt amp and it was dimming lights and losing power going uphill. That was a poor man's setup and it wasn't worth it. The one in my Ex that I did I bought a 1200 watt amp wiring kit, a distribution block and about 4 feet of 4 guage wire for about a little over $100. All you need to know about is what wires you will need. Multi wiring kits are usually a little overpriced and you wouldn't use all the pieces in the kit. Look around, that's how I found a good deals on my parts.

You won't need a cap on the amp for your high's. You can probably get away without one on your bass amp as well. Explorers handle systems pretty well due to the 130amp alternator most of them have, and the large battery. If it turned out you needed one you could add in a single cap right before the distribution block. I highly recommend the stinger 4 channel Rca's, and 2 channel set, as opossed to 3 2 channel sets.

yeah i'm thinking i could get away with not having a cap aswell. one last question tho... what would make more sense to get - one 4 gauge power kit, and one 8 gauge kit (which is what one person told me), or to get this stinger kit

SWK4D- Multi-Amp Power Kit for Amplifiers totaling up to 1400 Watts
18 feet of 4 ga. Custom PRO Red Power Wire
10 feet of 8 ga. Custom PRO Red Power Wire
10 feet of 8 ga. Custom PRO Black Ground Wire
1- 24kt Gold Plated ANL Fuse Holder with 150 Amp ANL fuse
1- 24kt Gold Plated 4 to 8 ga. Power Distribution Block
17 feet of 18 ga. Amplifier Remote Turn-on Wire
10- 7 inch wire ties
Full Assortment of 24kt Gold Plated Terminals and Hardware
Protective, Snap-in Wire Grommet

i'm not really sure whether or not that would cover everything? and then i would buy the stinger rca's and be done?

That kit looks alright.

Don't forget....your going to need lots of speaker wire. 12 gauge would be ideal.

u wont need a cap at all.. i have 2 amps powered from the battery just fine.. both are 2 channel amps feeding off 2 450 watts rms each.. no problem lately.. this might help.. good luck

i know this sounds cheap but go to walmart and get a 4ga kit...it comes ready to hook up two amps and it only cost 25 bucks its a steal and its not cheap stuff... nice setup sounds kinda like my stuff im using...im sure you will be happy...
