Well I am back looking fo help again, here goes. I have a 1995 Explorer, Eddy Bauer with a 4.0 L and auto transmission, apparently the T-Case has packed it in. I also have a parted out 1995 Explorer with a 4.0 L and a manual trans. My question is are the Borg & Warner 4405 T-case the same for the manual / auto trans explorers?

Thanks in advance

the 4405 transfer cases are the same, auto or 5 spd manual.

you didn't state that the 5 spd was a 4X4 tranny or not. I guessing that if it's not a 4X4 tranny, then no, it won't work. the rear shafts are different on auto trannys if they are 2WD or 4WD and I assume the same is true for 5 spd's.

if both trannys are 4X4 types then the transfer case would work.....

if I'm wrong, others should correct me soon........jjf

I am no expert on years/types/applications. The 4405 came in two flavors... the viscous drive and the "other one". I would guess though that out of the same year (pre 98) the 4405 was the same for manual and auto. The 4405 had a couple design flaws, which have been corrected ... see the 4405 Rebuild Diary for more info. You may want to rebuild your old one using parts from your "good one"... and fixing the flaws.
