OK, here's the deal: while I was installing new ball joints, the aluminium cover that protects the wheel speed sensor was damaged. Is there any way to aquire a new one? New sensor assemblies are in the neighborhood of $65; I would like to avoid that if I could.

I don't see any cover over the ABS sensor in this picture. Here's a picture of a second generation front ABS sensor from V8BoatBuilder's photo gallery:

On a 1st gen the ABS sensor passes through the Steering knuckle and surrounded by a Red protector which is attached to the spindle. Many times people will assume the sensor must be removed in order to remove the spindle (not true as only the ABS protector needs to be removed); as such they often mangle the sensor by forcing it out. That being said you will most likely need to find a replacement sensor (either new or used). You cannot simply replace the aluminum with sheet metal as the sensor uses a magnetic pick-up to detect the teeth on the ABS tone ring... Obviously a ferris metal (ie sheet metal) will blind the sensor and erroneously indicated wheel lock up.

\i just went to a wrecking yard, and picked up another one, but now I have 2 RH ones.. Have to go back and get a LH. How is the sensor held into place? I pulled mine out last year, and have lost the nuts and bolts for it. I know the 6mm screw holds the cover, but what holds the actual sensor in?
