negotiating a AWD Limited w/302a.... wondering what others have paid

Hi... I'm about to buy my first Ford (Explorer) and since I've never bought new before and am a novice at the negotiating, I am wondering what others have paid. I am looking at an AWD Limited with the dual moonroof, 302a, second row bucket seats without the console. Thank you.

One option is to go to www.truecar.com and spec out a vehicle and they will give you the average market price and three dealers in your area that participate in the program. I was able to get the 2014 average price for a 2015 special order sport with two dealers competing for the order. That plus the pre labor day $1500 factory rebate made it a great deal for me. Depends on market in your area. Explorers are in high demand and some dealers may not want to deal that much. Also try asking for a quote through the internet sales person before going to the dealership in person. You can get an idea of how much they will deal before meeting them in person plus they know you are searching for a vehicle and probably have looked at other dealers. Inform yourself before you go to the dealer and you can intimidate them. if you go into a dealership uninformed they intimidate you.

I got mine for $500 over invoice and was able to get $2750 in rebates.( $1500, $750 coupon from ford, $500 College Student). And a good price on my trade.

thanks... the $500 over invoice was before or after the rebates and coupons were applied. Where does one get the coupon? Where does one find the invoice price? Thanks.

500 was before any rebates were applied. I got the coupon by requesting a brochure online for the Explorer, about 3 weeks later I got the brochure with the coupon.

Truecar shows the invoice as well as what cars are selling for in your area.
