NEW explorer fan.... going to buy one tomorrow but need a little help...

you did really fine, not sure if you are young or not but I used to get this treatment all the time from dealers when I would go in and look at cars in my younger days. I am not a Ford fan boy in fact just about every Ford I have owned has usually ended up having to need serious repairs (frame, head gaskets, radiators, transmissions), but the Ford dealers I went to always treated me like a person that might buy from them, and I usually did. I know most salesmen don't seem to stay in one place long, but these young folks that you don't take seriously do buy and are your future customers and will remember how they were treated. OK done with my soapbox, again super nice purchase and cannot beat a limited.

lol yeah I really think she messed up treating me the way she did.... because if she would have gone through and just sold me the car then I would have that XLT on the right instead of the Limited I got on the left.. What do you mean though 'cannot be a limited'??? the one on the left is the one i bought and it is a limited... :b

Sorry about that, it should say "cannot beat a limited"

it's all good.... i sorta thought that's what you meant to type... :] and you're right this limited is soooooooooooo cool!!!!!! gas is a bit pricey and it guzzles it so it seems.... the dealer 'filled it up' before i took it home.... i'm wondering if they have a trick of the trade filling up a gas tank hmmmm

The one on the right is the one I wanted to buy but they didn't want to sell that night I guess. I'm sooooo glad I didn't buy the one on the right!!! The Limited on the left is mine now and I don't even want to be sitting at my computer right now lol... I've been sitting in the front seat a lot the last few days... :b

I pulled out the porter cable this evening and did a quick detail.... as good of a job as the sunlight permitted! I will do a much better job when I have the time.. I had to find a parking structure tonight for pics... I will take some daylight pictures tomorrow.

Now..... any recommendations for fun mods or accessory ideas?? I'd love some ideas if anyone has any... I was wondering what the stock wheels black or a darker color would look like. I bet they'd look darker. I wanted to get HID fogs.... to match the HID's that came stock... but I think it'd be hard to match exactly... maybe yellow fogs would be cool. Anyway let me know YOUR opinion on a little not too pricey change... I'd love to hear everyones ideas! I keep learning so much.... just today the valet key fell out of the key fob, I had no idea it was even in there!

What I always do is call the dealer I am interested on dealing with before going there and ask who the most senior salesman is and just go with him..I generally find the younger the sales person the more they try getting over on you..More so if is their first day on the job..Just IMHO.

As far as Fords go been buying them [LTD Crown Vic &Explorer] since 1968..All have been very low maintenance and none needed anything major..I put over 100K on each one..My 1996 Explorer ran awesome for over 200K miles..The Vic I have now has over 200K miles and driving to LA next month from here in Miami..All my Fords were dealer serviced for the most part..When I sold each one everything worked perfectly and a/c was still ice cold.

I like your vehicle and I think you did really well. I do not understand the need for someone to come on OP's thread and state how much problem he has had with a brand someone purchased, then say "but good job." Seems very condescending. Everyone knows every car maker has issues. There is no need to imply that they did not do their homework. I have had nothing but good luck with Ford's and so has my family and friends. It's funny, when I have get togethers at the house, 9 out of every 10 vehicles there are Fords lol. My Dad and Grandfather were Ford men. My Dad always says "your Ford will treat you as good as you treat her." He currently has an 05 Super Duty and a 98 Lincoln that all he has had to do is regular maint and they still run great. There are many many many great stories you do not hear about. The only vehicles I have owned that I have ever had issues with were in fact, not Fords.

Regarding accessories, I would look into getting the window vent shades. I think they add a nice look and are so helpful in the rain/snow/heat (as you can leave them 'cracked' when out in the sun) when you want fresh air.

Good luck with your ride!

Guys I actually made a deal today! We got a Black 2014 XLT with 34k miles on it. $28,000 The Sport would be nice but what I WANT is a 350z or 370z so I think just the explorer xlt should be good.... since I can get a 350z for $8k now a days. Thanks for the replies and now I need to do some researching and reading up even more about the explorer! I really want to paint the silver grill to black, the silver on a black explorer is an eye soar of a grill.....

I hear ya. I personally don't see the need for a ton of HP and supposed handling in a boat SUV/CUV. Yeah, the Sport will handle better and go faster than the XLT/LTD, but is a big, top heavy vehicle.

I have a mint 2003 Saab 9-5 Aero (beefed up HP and tuned-up suspension version in the Aero) as my fun handling vehicle with only 67k on in. With the upgraded touch screen/sound system, this car is not too far off from recent model lux cars. Has the electronic stability control, TCS/ABS, rain sensing wipers, heated and cooled seats, self leveling and corning bi-xenons, etc. As fast as a comparable year 911 Turbo 30-70 mph given shift timing and closed turbo wastgate in that range. Not great off the line as FWD, but mid-range and handling are excellent for a sports sedan that is pretty low to the ground. Not much more impressed in comparable 2015 sports sedans from a handling standpoint, though they do have more HP now.

I think the NA V6 on the Ex is just fine and it corners fine given I don't drive it aggressively. The Ex is for utility for me. If I want spirited driving, I jump in the Saab. However, I can see getting the Sport if that is your only vehicle and you want the power. If you already have a sports sedan/coupe, it's harder to appreciate the Sport IMO as there is no way such a large, high-up vehicle can compare to something smaller, tightly tuned and low slung in handling.

The Saab suspension is pretty tight. Actually not so fun on bumpy roads. Locally where we have a lot of patched roads my XLT is a much more comfortable ride. Nice to have both options.

Do you still have the 2001 Honda? IF not, time to update your profile or add the Limited to your signature.:)
