This is my first post but surely not my last. I bought my Explorer out of frustration, not being able to pull a decent size trailer. I'm still having problem of under power, pulling only 4000 lbs. If there are any suggestions please post. Explorer is an XLT 98 4x4 4.0 L. Still haven't found out what the gear ratio is on the differential. I suspect a 3.75 or lower.

First off Welcome aboard
Second there should be a metal tag on the rear differential cover. Then post the number and someone will give you the info
The explorer you briught did it have a tow package on it?
I believe you should have a 3.73
I might be wrong

Welcome, with that Ticat name I thought you,d be from Hamilton not Winnipeg:)
If you look on the drivers door there should be a sticker that tells you the code that translates to your axle ratio(bottom of sticker) should be able to translate this in you owners manual or do a search here its on here lots.
Good luck.

Canada is taking over!!!

Welcome to the site Ticat and congrats on the new Explorer. Well, everyone has given you the advice on the axle and you can find the info by searching the site. Check my signature for a link to search. Good luck with the Ex and welcome aboard.

Happy postin'!:)
