Just got a flowmaster 50 muffler and had it put in place of the stock muffler so I still have the stock tubing. When driving the muffler seems ok, the engine will go to 5500 rpm and do just fine although it feels a little slower at the low end than stock. But in neutral floored the truck will only hit 3500 rpm or so. Is this a backpressure issue and do you guys have any suggestions on how to solve this?

agreed... it keeps ur engine from overworking and hitting ur valves

great to know, thanks guys, maybe I never did rev it in neutral when I had the stock muffler. Thanks again

Did you keep the stock tubing all the way out? There's a long line from the muffler to the tip, my exhaust guys said if I put a 50 series muffler and keep the tubing it will be too quiet.
Could you post a sound clip somewhere?

thanks

hes full of crap... the 50 is made to be decently quiet at idle but lets a nice wail when u step on it, and those r the exact results ur gunna get but its nowhere near completely inaudible... i kept stock tubing with a 40 series and its plenty loud.. my advice is to change the tip though.. cut it where it makes the diagonal turn and put a magnaflow 3'' in its place.. thats what i did and it looks great.. and btw although u have a V8, if u wanna hear stock tubing with a 40 series, go to youtube and search "v6 explorer exhaust''... my explorer is gold and it should be the first result on the list

wooooohhh hello fellow washingtonian. if you want to rev it all the way without going anywhere put it in park instead of neutral and revv away.

edit: i just realized you have an 05. this may not work for you. infact i dont think the revs are limited in neutral on mine...

A lot of Ford vehicles have that feature. My ex-roommate's SHO Tarus had it and it was like a 93-94 or something like that.

SHO v-6 auto + 150 hp shot of juice = FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!

Yankee.................OVER AND OUT!!!!!:salute:

i hate the rev limiter cause when i want to rev my 01 sport some more for my friends to hear my 40 series flowmasters it just goes up to 3000 rpm and thats it and it wont go anymore then that I wish they is a way to make it go up to like 4000 or 5000 rpm.

why rev it just drive who cares what are you 16 again....

close, im 18. lol

lol well have u tried neutral and park? one mite let u open it up... if not then the rev limiter is for both gears, which would blow

thats funny. im 17 have no need to show off the pipes wich allow gas to go from th motor out the back..seems lame.

actually new pipes increase mpg not lower it.

well like everybody else says, you cant keep your foot off the gas when you get them so you lose mpg in that sense.

not always.

well if u want to get technical and not just about having a lead foot, it really does help ur gas mileage... ur engine gets more chance to breathe because backpressure is minimized quite a bit... ur stock pipe makes so much backpressure muffling the sound so when u put in a muffler thats pretty wide open, it helps air flow better... same goes for intake cuz thats where it all starts... once ur engine's ECU adjusts to having easy access to air rather than going thru a suffocating airbox, u get much better performance
