I live in The Villages, Forida since 2003. I have been working on cars since I was 12 which is a long time ago - 55 years if you care!!
My son has a 1996 Explorer XLT will all kinds of problems. I purchased a used car for him so I am fixing all the issues then will sell the Explorer.
It all started with a no start. The starter winds up but the engine does not move. Removed the starter then checked the flywheel which was cracked and wasn't engaging the starter. Fixed that....
Overhead console display is out. He seems to remember a water leak (no sunroof). Interior console fuse 10 7.5a is blown. I joined this form for some help removing the console to check it for water damage. Sometimes I think there is a spring clip and end up causing major damage. There are two clips as noted in one of the posts I found. Have to get another fuse then see what happens now that the console is dry, then check for the leak.
Right front noise; haven't had time to work on that; maybe after the 4th holiday.
Parking brake does not work. The cable is ok and tight so after the 4th.
Brake light on. Fluid was low. Adding more put the light out. No exterior fluid or brake fluid smell. May be related to the parking brake problem (disk pads are saturated with fluid; after the 4th.
Lots more... but I don't want to bore you any more.
