I own a 96 explorer with prem. sound (4 speakers, amp, 6 cd changer, rear controls) I have recently put a new head unit and front speakers in and I'm wondering if I could have done a better job. With the head unit I integrated the factory amp into the system for an extra $20. my head unit is 50x4 peak 22x4 constant and the factory amps spec were a mystery to me throughout the process. I figured using the amp could only have benefits but some people say that it makes it sound worse, so thats my first question. Is the factory amp making in sound worse then if i bypassed it and why?( my guess is its lower watts then the head unit if its making it worse. Also what are the specs on the amp thats in there? I also upgraded to new 6 1/2 speakers up front with power capabilities far beyond the head unit and with good sound quality. this is another problem I've heard. Some say the stock amp is only a good idea to use if the speakers are also stock. Now my reason for the upgrade is the stock 6x8's being ovals they tend to wear out much faster and being a 96 (15 years old) they gave me a little crackle at some frequencies. I also planned to add eitehr 6x9's or 6x8's into the back with better specs then factory. I guess my main question is did I and am I doing things right or should I go a different route? Thanks in advance for the help.
