Well, I replaced my 4 four stock speakers with 4 new
3-way speakers. The ones up front have 200 watt max and the ones in the back have 220 watt max. Right now I have a Ford stock radio head unit with a 6 disc changer installed. I have been told that replacing the head unit with one that can handle more power will make the sound quality much better. Obviously this is true, but how dramatic do you think the change will be? Also, if I do install a new head unit, how will I know that it will be compatible with my existing cd changer? Is there a certain model or brand that I should look for that will get me on the right track? Thanks

Replacing the stock HU is always a good idea in a first step of creating better sound. I replaced my stock hu (cass./radio in a 91) with a nice sony hi wattage HU (54x4 probally around 25x4 RMS) but man they make my stock speakers sound much nicer. I have the normal Pioneer 6x8 in the front and the stock speakers in the back. And forshure my system sounds about 4 to 5times better than stock! Im soon to upgrade my 2 12s with one 15" and a 500Watt amp somtime next month, Ill post some pictures as always. You can check out my current system below in my sig.

Also you can always purchase a 4channel amp to drive the speakers to there fullest, but I say do the head unit and then think about an amp, you never know the HU might drive the speakers just right, like mine does. One thing about sony the do get a little hot, i can tell from my cd when i eject it, but that is only because i blast my subs and speakers down street, school, you know.... Later
