2002 Ford Explorer XLT
Hi,
I just joined this forum.
I have a 2002 Ford Explorer XLT with trailer tow package Class III/IV with 3.73LS Rear Axle ratio.

I have pulled my 2001 Coleman Niagara Elite Series Pop up camper and its 25 ft long with no problem.

I'm looking to purchase a 7 x 16 cargo trailer. I'm wondering if I will have no problem pulling it or what?

I looked at tow chart for my Explorer and its showing:

Maximum GCWR-kg (lbs) 4 645 (10 240)

Trailer weight range -kg (lbs)(0-Maximum) 0-2 694 (0-5 940)

I'm not able to figure this out. Can you help me with this chart?

Any feedback on this will be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Gross combined weight rating

The gross combined weight rating (GCWR) is the maximum loaded weight of your Explorer plus the loaded weight of your trailer and equals 10,240 pounds. The maximum trailer weight is 5,940 pounds. If your Explorer loaded with fuel, people, etc. only weighs 4,200 pounds and is subtracted from the GCWR that equals 6,040 pounds but you are still limited to a trailer weight of 5,940 pounds. If your Explorer loaded with fuel, people, etc. weighs 4,700 pounds (more realistic) and is subtracted from the GCWR that equals 5,540 pounds and your trailer weight can't exceed that.
